What is konjac?

The name Konjac comes from the plant of the same name, endemic to Japan, China and Southeast Asia. Konjac is a potato-like bulb with significant nutritional value, thanks to its high content of the plant substance glucomannan, a polymer of glucose that does not burden the body with calories. Its advantages are the ability to absorb 100 to 200 times its weight, resulting in the formation of a gel. In China and Japan, konjac root is widely used mainly for its high fiber content and detoxifying properties.

How is it made?

The process of turning a konjac bulb into cleansing and make-up remover sponges is similar to the process of preparing a cake. The root is pulverized into powder and with the addition of water it is molded into a “dough”. Then calcium hydroxide – stabilizing agent – is added and baked and solidified. The result of the above process is a natural product, 100% biodegradable, very friendly to the skin. Plus its rich content of vitamins and minerals all valuable for its good health. It is no coincidence that its original use was for the daily cleaning of babies!

It is very soft and friendly to the skin. What makes konjac stand out is that it removes dirt and dust, stimulates microcirculation, thanks to the gentle massage it does, but mainly because it works as a mild exfoliator that deeply cleanses the pores.

Instructions for use:

How we use it. When we take the konjac sponge out of its packaging, it is usually small in size, hard and dry. Before the first use, dip it in hot water for 15΄ until it softens and swells. In the following days, it is enough to wet it 1-2 minutes before each use. Then and every time we use the sponge:

Place it between the palms and drain gently. Apply a small amount of the cleaning product of your choice or use it alone on fresh skin.
We make gentle, circular movements with an upward direction apart from the eye area. We insist especially on the T point of the face, where there is a tendency for intense oiliness.
Rinse the konjac sponge with plenty of cool water and drain by pressing, again, gently between our palms. We never squeeze it.
Let it dry – away from bright light and moisture – until the next use.
Every two weeks we take care of the systematic cleaning by placing the sponge in very hot water for about 5 minutes.
We replace it with a new one after 4-6 weeks of daily use.
